Apple may discontinue the iPhone X around July-August this year

After some issues and a less-than-glorious response, the Cupertino Giant Apple is now expected to discontinue the iPhone X as the new lineup arrives. One of the analysts at KGI Securities has made the prediction.

MacRumors has reported the prediction made by Ming-Chi Kuo about the Apple iPhone X. According to the analyst from KGI Securities, Apple would rather halt the production of the phone than sell it at a lower price point. This move is expected as lowering the prices can hurt other products in their lineup.

Fate of the iPhone X

While the tenth-anniversary Apple iPhone came with a revamped design and functionality, it may be short-lived as the next generation devices arrive. According to the analysts at KGI, this present device will remain a flagship till it is discontinued.

The practical reason for the same is explained by Kuo in his research saying, “iPhone X would hurt product brand value & lineup of 2H18 new models if it continues to sell at a lower price after 2H18 new models launch. Additionally, to sell iPhone X at a lower price may have a negative impact on shipments of the new 6.1″ LCD iPhone in 2H18. Thus, we estimate device will reach end-of-life (EOL) around the middle of 2018”.

Through Kuo’s statement, we can get an idea of the upcoming Apple iPhone lineup which will comprise the second gen iPhone X and iPhone X Plus (with a bigger screen) as premium devices. Coming down, it will have the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, then the iPhone 7 Duo, and finally the most affordable iPhone SE. Also, the next generation of iPhones is expected to come with a lower price tag due to an LCD panel replacing the AMOLED.
