Reliance Jio Phone might soon get WhatsApp compatibility, and users of the budget device may be able to use it very soon. As per recent reports, WhatsApp has been working on a KaiOS version of the messaging app which will bring the support for JioPhone users. The popular JioPhone which Reliance Jio introduced at affordable price runs on the KaiOS.
According to the latest report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp messenger is said to be in development stages for the KaiOS platform. “Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers,” reads the post by WABetaInfo.
After Reliance Jio rolled out its own apps on the KAI OS platform, other apps were also made available for the OS such as Facebook. The Kai OS developer company Mozilla at MWC 2018 made interesting revelations about their apps which included the likes of Facebook, Google Assistant, and Twitter. However, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has still been not made available to Kai OS and hence JioPhone too was deprived of it.
But now it seems, after stopping the support for BlackBerry OS and Windows Phone 8, WhatsApp is focusing to develop the app for this Kai OS platform. So, we might soon get to see an official app of WhatsApp messenger for the JioPhone.
KaiOS is a Linux-based mobile operating system installed on feature phones. Mozilla had previously worked unsuccessfully to create a base for apps in HTML5. The KaiOS has become popular because of Reliance’s JioPhone. Due to JioPhone users’ positive reviews, KaiOS has also been accepted by companies like Nokia and Alcatel for their phones such as Nokia 8110 and OneTouch Flip Go respectively.
