Reliance JioPhone 2 and JioGigaFiber announced, will be available from August 15

Reliance Industries on Thursday unveiled the JioPhone 2 and Jio GigaFiber at 41st annual general meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries. The much-awaited fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband service and successor to JioPhone will be made available starting from August 15.

The new JioPhone 2 is another feature phone that comes with several improvements in terms of specifications and design from the JioPhone which was launched last year. Reliance Jio also launched a Monsoon Hungama offer to exchange the old feature phones with a new JioPhone 2.

JioPhone 2 Features, Specifications

The JioPhone 2 has a BlackBerry-like design with horizontal rectangular shape and a QWERTY keypad. If we talk about specifications of JioPhone 2, it will sport same 2.4-inch QVGA display panel and a QWERTY keypad with 4-way navigation key. The JioPhone 2 will also run same Kai OS as the JioPhone.

For memory, it will pack 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD. In terms of camera, the JioPhone 2 will sport a 2MP rear camera and a front VGA camera. It will pack a  2,000 mAh battery. Connectivity options will include VoLTE, VoWiFi, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, and NFC. Notable, unlike JioPhone, it will support Dual SIM Nano. Also, the company has announced the support for Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp applications.


JioPhone 2 Price, Availability

The JioPhone 2 registration will start from August 15. The JioPhone 2 is priced at Rs. 2,999. Both the JioPhone and the new Jio Phone 2 will be available side-by-side in the market. The company also announced JioPhone Monsoon Hungama offer that allows feature phone users to exchange their phone for the new JioPhone 2 for just for Rs. 501. This offer will start from July 21.

JioGigaFiber

After months of testing, Reliance Jio has announced its FTTH based JioGigaFiber service. The company claims speeds of up to 1Gbps and with such speed, it will be the “biggest greenfield fixed-line broadband service” in the world. The JioGigaFiber will be extended to home, as well as small, medium and large enterprises simultaneously across 1100 cities in India.

Under JioGigaFiber, the company will offer services like Ultra HD content on TV, video conferencing, voice-activated virtual assistant, virtual reality gaming and shopping, TV calling and smart home solutions to the subscribers.

The registrations for JioGigaFiber will also start from August 15 via the MyJio app and Jio.com website. The company will rollout Jio GigaFiber in several localities of 1100 cities based on the interest received from registrations.
