Xiaomi has announced its latest flagship smartphone Mi 9 in China. The key features of the Mi 9 are a Super AMOLED display, the latest Snapdragon 855 7nm processor with up to 8GB of RAM, in-display fingerprint sensor and Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 on top. Another highlight of the phone is its triple rear camera setup with a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor.
Xiaomi Mi 9 comes with a new design that uses nano laser engraving holographic technology and dual layer nano coating. So, the phone offers unique colors when light falls on it. It also has Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the back. It is aso the first phone with 20W wireless charging support. Let’s check out detailed features.
Xiaomi Mi 9 Specifications
The Mi 9 sports 6.39-inch Full HD+ (1080 × 2280 pixels) Super AMOLED display with 90.7% screen to body ratio as it has 3.6mm small chin at the bottom. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The Mi 9 has an optical in-display fingerprint sensor that is better than the traditional capacitive fingerprint sensor.
Under the hood, it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 7nm processor with Adreno 640 GPU. It is paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. It also supports Game Turbo mode with real-time CPU/GPU/FPS monitoring. The smartphone runs Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10.
In terms of camera, there is a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with 0.8μm pixel size, f/1.75 aperture, LED flash, a 12MP Samsung S5K3M5 telephoto lens with 2x lossless zoom, and a 16MP Sony IMX481 ultra-wide angle lens. The rear camera also comes with Laser Autofocus, PDAF, Contrast Detection Autofocus (CAF), and closed-loop Voice Coil Motor for improved auto-focusing. It sports a 20MP front-facing camera.
Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band (2×2 MU-MIMO), Bluetooth 5, Dual-frequency GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC, and USB Type-C. It packs a 3300mAh battery with 27W fast charging and 20W wireless fast charging support.
Xiaomi also announced a Transparent Edition of the Mi 9. It comes with 12GB RAM and the company says it the world’s first phone with 12GB RAM that has entered mass production. To recall, Lenovo has also announced Z5 Pro GT with 12GB RAM back in December. This special Mi 9 edition has a 7P lens and f/1.47 large aperture main camera.
Price, availability
The Xiaomi Mi 9 price in China starts at 2999 yuan (Rs. 31,725 approx.) for the 6GB/128GB version. The 8GB/128GB version is priced at 3299 yuan (Rs. 34,900 approx.). The Transparent Edition costs 3999 yuan (Rs. 42,300 approx.). The smartphone will go on sale from February 26 in China.
