MWC 2019: Huawei Mate X foldable 5G phone announced

Huawei Mate X- the first foldable phone from the company was finally unveiled at an event in Barcelona today. The Mate X comes with a 6.6-inch main front display, a 6.38-inch back display and this expands to an 8-inch screen when unfolded. It is also a 5G phone with Huawei’s new Balong 5000 5G modem. It is powered by Kirin 980 7nm SoC, runs Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI, sports triple rear cameras including a 40MP main camera and packs a big 4500mAh battery with powerful 55W fast charging support.

Huawei Mate X Design

The Mate X comes with a stretchable hinge in the middle for a smooth and flat finish on both sides. This doesn’t produce a bulge when the device is unfolded. Also, it doesn’t get stretched while folding. The hinge is just 5.4mm at the thinnest point.

The new Huawei Mate X works as three displays. It gets a 6.6-inch main display when folded. There is another 6.4-inch rear display. This becomes an 8-inch tablet when unfolded. You can also use the rear display to click selfies with the main camera.


Huawei Mate X Specifications

The Huawei Mate X sports a 6.6-inch (2480 x 1148 pixels) 19.5:9 aspect ratio OLED main display. It has a 6.38-inch (2480 x 892 pixels) OLED display for back panel with 25:9 aspect ratio. It becomes an 8-inch (2480 x 2200 pixels) OLED display with 8:7.1 aspect ratio.

It is powered by Kirin 980 processor with Mali-G76MP10 GPU and Balong 5000 5G modem. It packs 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 512GB storage that is expandable up to 256GB with NM card. The smartphone runs Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.1.1.

In the optics department, the Mate X sports a 40MP primary rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 16MP secondary Ultra Wide Angle lens, and an 8MP Telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. It features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and dual speakers.

Connectivity options on the phone include 5G Multi-mode, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS (L1 + L5 dual band), NFC, and USB Type-C. It is powered by a 4500 mAh battery with world’s first 55W SuperCharge fast charging tech that can charge the battery from 0 to 85% in just 30 minutes.

Price, availability

The Huawei Mate X is priced at 2299 Euros (Rs. 1,85,220 approx.). It comes
in Interstellar Blue color. The device and will roll out from mid-2019.in select markets.
