Reliance Jio and Google To Launch Affordable 5G Smartphone in India

Jio and Google have partnered to launch the cheapest smartphone with 5G in India. These 5G ready smartphones will be coming at a fraction of the current 5G smartphones. Google also revealed that with this partnership, Google will create a more optimized Android platform for these affordable 5G smartphones.

Jio and Google said that this will be achieved by creating a “Value-engineered” Android operating system. Google will release the new affordable 5G smartphone running this new optimized Android operating system.

The company has also announced Google will be investing Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.7% stake in Jio platforms. With the help of Google, Mukesh Ambani said that he wanted to make India 2G-mukt (2G free).

This smartphone will come at a fraction of the price of the current 5G smartphones. Jio also says that it aims to shift millions of 2G smartphone users to the new 5G smartphones with the help of Google.


Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, and MD of Reliance Industries said,

At the event, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said,

Reliance Industries, and Jio Platforms in particular, deserve a good deal of credit for India’s digital transformation. The pace and scale of digital transformation in India is hugely inspiring for us and reinforces our view that building products for India first helps us build better products for users everywhere. Google is proud to invest Rs 33,737 crore into Jio. I am excited that our joint collaboration will focus on increasing access for hundreds of millions of Indians who don’t currently own a smartphone while improving the mobile experience for all,” Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said.”
