How to Set an Image as Desktop Wallpaper Directly From Browser?

While changing a new desktop background is quite easy, applying a new desktop background directly from the web browser without downloading is not, especially on Google Chrome. Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer have had it for years. Other browsers don’t have such an option or download the image on the PC. You can set a new image as a desktop background without downloading it using the below methods.

Method 1 – Use IE Tab (Chromium Browsers)

It is quite strange why Google Chrome does not allow setting a new desktop background, while Internet Explorer had it. After testing a dozen of chromium-based extensions, I found a working method. Though Internet Explorer has been discontinued, you can use the IE tab extension to emulate it on Chrome. Here’s how to change the desktop background directly from Chrome. This works only on Windows and not on Mac.

1. Install the IE tab extension from the Google Chrome Web store to your PC’s web browser.

3. A prompt for the free trial will appear; click OK to proceed. This will open an Internet Explorer window in a new tab.

4. Click the redirect link to view the page in the Internet Explorer theme.

If it does not work, then install the “ietabhelper” program, downloaded while installing the extension.
