LeEco Le 1S Camera Review, Photo Samples, Low Light Performance

About 10 days ago, LeTv, branded as LeEco in India, launched two of their smartphones in India. One of them was the LeEco Le 1S and the other one is the LeEco Le Max. Today, in this article, I’ll be bringing you the detailed Camera review of the Le 1S smartphone. The Le 1S is a budget-oriented smartphone, priced at just INR 10,999 only, which is a really amazing price for what the smartphone offers.

LeEco Le 1S (12)

The LeEco Le 1S packs a 13-megapixel primary camera, along with a 5-megapixel secondary camera. The primary camera is supported by an LED Flash. The camera hardware on the phone looks really promising, at least on paper, but let us move to the more technical details now.

Camera Hardware Table

Both the primary and the secondary camera come equipped with a f/2.0 aperture, which is decent for mobile phone photography. The primary camera is capable of recording a 2K video at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The secondary camera, on the other hand, can record a 1920 x 1080 pixels, full-HD video.

LeEco Le 1S Camera Software

The camera software on the Le 1S is pretty clean and laid out in a simple way. This allows you to take pictures easily, and switch between modes and formats easily as well. You are greeted with a slider at the bottom using which you can easily switch between various modes. Within the modes, you can choose different individual settings like HDR, Night Mode, Scenes etc.

There are a few camera modes in-built in the app, which include Slow Motion, Video, Photo and Panorama. Inside these modes, you can switch scenes and there are quite a few scenes available for you to choose from. Here’s a list of all those modes.

LeEco Le 1S Camera Samples

We tested the Le 1S’s camera intensely. We were able to take a lot of great shots with the phone, and considering the price point, the phone’s camera performs really well. Below are our shots taken with the device, segregated into categories.

Front Camera Samples

Our team at GadgetsToUse was definitely not happy with the quality of the front camera on the Le 1S. The camera performs decent, but it’s not great. You can see a warmer tint in the images that you capture using the front facing camera. It performs like an average camera in natural lighting but performs below average in low lighting conditions.

Rear Camera Samples

The rear camera of the device is a 13-megapixel shooter, with an aperture of f/2.0. Here, we tested the phone in various lighting conditions to get a good feel of the camera. We divided the shots that we took into Artificial lighting, natural lighting and low lighting conditions.

Artificial Light

In artificial lighting, the camera does not perform amazingly. You can see a lot of noise in the pictures that we took in artificial lighting. It could have been better with the f/2.0 aperture, but it just isn’t.

Natural Light

In natural lighting condition, the camera performs well. We were able to capture a lot of great shots in natural lighting, whether focusing on a distant object or on a nearby object. The detail in the pictures is also good. Even when you zoom inside the picture, you can see the object in focus easily.

Low Light

In low lighting condition, the camera again stutters a bit. It performs okay I’d say but it’s definitely not up to the mark in Low Lighting conditions. It could definitely have been better, either with a software enhancement or with a better hardware, though the hardware doesn’t seem to be the problem here.

LeEco Le 1S Camera Verdict

The LeEco Le 1S has a camera that you can not say is great by any means. It performs well in natural lighting condition, but that’s as good as any other camera. In artificial and low lighting, the camera isn’t anything great. Stay tuned to GadgetsToUse for a full review of the LeEco Le 1S that we will bring out really shortly.
