Xiaomi has been on a roll in India over the last few months. After launching the extremely successful and fan-favourite Redmi Note 3 last year, the company followed it up with a more efficient Redmi Note 4 earlier this year. In the entry level segment, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 3S, delivering extremely good value for money. The company today launched another entry level device in India, the Redmi 4A.
Featuring a 5 inch display and a quad-core processor, the Redmi 4A is a cheaper version of the Redmi 4. It comes with 2GB RAM and misses out on the fingerprint sensor.

Physical Overview
The Redmi 4A sticks to Xiaomi’s core design principles. It’s minimalist, with no branding on the front. On the back, you will find the camera, speaker and the Mi logo. Overall, the phone features a very reserved look with not much going on in terms of design elements.
On the front, you will find the 5 inch HD IPS LCD display. Just above the display, you’ll find the front camera and the earpiece.
Below the display, you will find the three capacitive navigation buttons.
On the right side, you will find the power button and the volume rocker.
To the left, you will find the SIM card slot. The Redmi 4A comes with a hybrid SIM card slot.
The backside of the phone houses the 13 MP camera along with an LED flash. The loudspeaker is placed near the lower half of the device. Just above the speaker, you will find the Mi logo.
The top of the phone houses the 3.5mm audio jack.
On the bottom, you will find the microUSB port and the mic.

Gaming Performance
We tested Dead trigger 2 as the light game and Asphalt 8 as the heavy one on the Redmi 4A. The phone performed really well in terms of graphics and sound management. I didn’t face any lag or frame drops while playing Dead Trigger 2. We expected to see lags and frame drops in the Asphalt 8 as its a heavy game, but yet again there were no major lags. Graphics are well handled by Adreno 308. All over it was a smooth experience.
Battery dropped by 4% after 15 minutes gaming session of Dead Trigger 2. On the other hand Asphalt 8 for 15 minutes dropped the battery by 6% in 15 minutes. Phone didn’t get too hot but got a little warm after both the sessions.

Conclusion
The entry level smartphone segment in India is fiercely competitive. While Xiaomi has been a very competitive player for a while now with its Redmi 3S, the Redmi 4A takes the fight to even lower price points. Offering a decent experience with its custom skin, the Redmi 4A seeks to build on the brand value of the Redmi series by targeting more people than ever with an even lower price.
