Apple today finally launched its first polycarbonate body iPhone, iPhone 5C(Quick Review) in India at a launch event scattered throughout 10 major cities of India for a price of Rs. 41,900 INR. India is among the last batch of countries to receive new iPhones and the enthusiasm amidst Apple fans is amazing. Let’s take a look at what this replacement of iPhone 5 brings to the table.
The new iPhone 5c is not a cheaper iPhone it’s only a “unapologetically plastic” iPhone according to Apple. The problem with polycarbonate body is that although it is shatter resistant, it gets scratched over time and after a few months of usage, it loses its shine. To deal with it Apple has provided with Lacquer Coated Poly carbonate back on this phone to make it more scratch resistant, but even with that coating, you can’t expect the same resistance which is offered by Metallic iPhones like iPhone 5.
iPhone 5c comes with 4 inch Retina Display which is one of the best IPS LCD displays we have seen. The color reproduction is extremely good and the viewing angles are wide enough to give printed paper like experience. The 4 inch size however does not appeal to masses with Android phones closing in on the gap between tablets and phablets.
iPhone 5c has similar chipset specifications as iPhone 5 which it replaced. It is powered by Apples A6 chipset and runs on latest iOS 7 Operating System. This phone handles iOS 7 better than iPhone 5, which saw reduced battery backup after the upgrade. The A6 chipset is a custom made chipset with 1.3 GHz Dual core processor and an integrated triple core PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU. The RAM backing up this processor is 1 GB LPDDR2 RAM.
The camera has also been enhanced compared to iPhone 5. The camera of this device has a 8MP BSI sensor and this iSight camera comes with Hybrid IR filter and 5 Element lens. The pixel size is 1.9 micrometer which is similar to Ultrapixel camera pixel in HTC ONE. This pixel is larger in size and will give more efficient camera performance. Front Camera is improved FaceTime HD camera with FaceTime Audio and improved backside illumination. This phone will come with LTE and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
You can buy iPhone 5c 16 GB priced at Rs. 41,900 and iPhone 5c 32 GB at Rs. 53,500. For the price of 32 GB variant you can also get iPhone 5s. Reliance Communication is also offering this phone on a 2 year contract where you have to only 2,599 for 2 years and also benefit from free unlimited local and STD callS and 3G Data usage ans SMS plan. iPhone 5c hasn’t been a runaway success globally unlike iPhone 5s, The USP of this device is the availability of this phone in Blue, white, pink, yellow and green colors.
