Samsung Galaxy J1 Goes Official with Entry Level Specifications

Putting an end to all the rumors, Samsung announced the new Galaxy series of smartphones – Galaxy J with the Galaxy J1. Though the device has been launched without much fanfare, the complete spec sheet of the handset has appeared on Samsung Malaysia website.

Notably, the Galaxy J1 as rumored is a budget smartphone and it boasts of a 4.3 inch WVGA display that carries a screen resolution of 480×800 pixels. There is a 1.2 GHz dual core processor of unknown chipset operating within the smartphone backed by meager 512 MB of RAM. The storage department of the J1 is handled by 4 GB of native storage space that is common among entry level offerings, but it can be expanded externally by another 128 GB with the help of a micro SD card.

For imaging, the Galaxy J1 makes use of a 5 MP main shooter at its back teamed up with LED flash and a 2 MP front facing selfie snapper for video conferencing and clicking self portrait shots. There is a 1,850 mAh battery in the Galaxy J1 and it is rated to pump in up to 10 hours of talk time to the smartphone. Connectivity aspects onboard the entry level device includes Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS and Wi-Fi Direct.

Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the Galaxy J1 comes with a new Palm Selfie feature that is touted to detect the movement of the user’s hand to easily snap photos using hand gestures. The Tap to Take Pics feature will let users to capture photos by tapping anywhere on the display. Besides these new aspects, the Galaxy J1 also comes with the Ultra Power Saving Mode for an enhanced backup.
