Samsung has now announced a water, dust, shock and shatter resistant version of its flagship device, the Galaxy S8. The device has been dubbed as Galaxy S8 Active. The device comes with a bumper and a metal frame to make it stronger and protect the device.

 

As of now, the device will be an AT&T exclusive. It will be available from August 11 from AT&T for $28.34 for 30 months. This adds up to $850. The device can also be purchased at a retail price of $849.99.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active comes with a shatterproof display. The metal frame and the bumper protect the device from shocks, abrasion, tilting or twisting. The back comes with a rugged design to improve grip. The Galaxy S8 Active comes with IP68 Water and Dust Resistant rating. Apart from that, the device has also passed military specfication testing MIL-STD-810G.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. The device features a 5.8 inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The device comes with a pixel density ~570 PPI. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clubbed with Adreno 540 GPU. The device comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The storage on the device can be further expanded up to 256 GB via a microSD card.

Coming to the camera department, the Galaxy S8 Active features a 12MP Dual Pixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), 8x digital zoom, f/1.7 aperture and an LED flash. On the front, the device sports an 8 MP secondary camera with f/1.7 aperture.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth v 5.0, GPS with GLONASS, USB 3.1 and NFC. The device also come with various sensors such as Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, RGB Light Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Iris Sensor and Pressure Sensor.
