Xiaomi has been working on its 2018 line up of smartphones and we have been hearing about several rumors around these devices. Now, XDA developers have found the details of Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Max 3 smartphone. The new details suggest that the Mi Max 3 will be a major update over the Mi Max 2 and it could have features like dual rear camera, wireless charging and more.

Earlier, a Chinese blog CNMO detailed the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 in December last year. That report claimed that it would feature a huge 5,500mAh battery, a 7-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It also suggested dual rear camera setup and a Snapdragon 630 or 660 chipset. Now, XDA Developers have found more information about the device via its firmware files.

The MIUI Keyguard APK firmware reveals some more information about the Xiaomi’s upcoming phablet and also confirms some of the earlier leaked information. The latest report reveals that Mi Max 3 will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset.

It further confirms that the battery capacity of Mi Max 3 will be 5,500mAh. The latest report also confirms the use of an 18:9 display panel, however, the firmware files do not confirm the size of the display. The firmware though indicates that Mi Max 3 will run Android 8.1 Oreo.

The most interesting feature is support for wireless charging that XDA has reported. They discovered strings related to wireless charging. Xiaomi has not yet launched a smartphone with wireless charging and the Mi 7 is expected to be the first smartphone to support Qi wireless charging. So, with Mi Max 3, Xiaomi is trying to bring it to the mid-range segment.

Camera wise, the APK files reveal that the Mi Max 3 will use a dual rear camera with either Sony IMX 363 sensor or combination of Samsung ISOCELL S5K217 and S5K5E8 dual-camera system. Up front, it will use a single Samsung S5K4H7 image sensor. Additionally, there is also a mention of an iris sensor in the front camera. The firmware reveals that the sensor used here is the OmniVision 2281 which offers iris recognition for smartphones.

Other details revealed by the firmware include a dual-SIM card slot, support for two SD cards, an IR blaster, LED light for notifications. Moreover, the Chinese company will upgrade audio features with support for Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD Bluetooth audio codecs.

However, there is no official confirmation about the device from the Xiaomi as of now. The mid-range Mi Max 2 phablet is likely to be officially announced sometime in the second quarter of 2018.
