Oppo Find 5 Mini Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Oppo, the smartphone manufacturer that is pretty much the Apple of China has just commenced its Indian operations. It had launched its flagship device, the N1 for Rs 39,999 and is now going to follow the top down approach in launching smartphones in India. It has now launched a budget quad core smartphone, the Oppo Find 5 Mini in order to grab a share of the budget quad core market. Let us have a quick review of the Oppo Find 5 Mini:

Camera and Storage:

The Oppo Find 5 Mini comes shod with a 8 MP camera at the rear with flash which teams up with a 2 MP front camera as well for video calling and self-portrait shots. The 8MP rear camera comes with a BSI CMOS sensor and Sony LED flash so you can be assured that low light imaging won’t be an issue. It gets a F 2.0 wide aperture, AR Coating and Blue Glass IR filter to make things sweeter.

The internal storage capacity stands at 4 GB and this might just be an issue for it as it is pretty less. It reams up with a microSD card slot to expand memory by another 32 GB but what you need to remember is that you can’t install applications on microSD card. You get a 1GB RAM to multitask but at this price point we would have expected at least a 2 GB RAM.

Processor and Battery:

Under the hood of the Oppo Find 5 Mini is a MT6582 chipset with a quad core Cortex A7 CPU cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and they are completed well by the Mali 400 MP GPU. This is the same chipset powering almost every budget quad core device on sale in India so its decent performance levels are pretty much known to us.

The battery is a non-removable 2,000 mAh unit which again according to us is average. If you are going to be paying up Rs 20,000 for a smartphone, you’d expect a decent battery life but the same might just fail you in this regard.

Display and Features:

The device has a 4.7 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. And this is the part which is going to take away a lot of prospective buyers from the Oppo Find 5 Mini. You can get Full HD displays in this price range or even at lesser price points but what Oppo is offering is a qHD display which is simply unacceptable.

It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Color UI optimisation on top of it which might not be to everybody’s liking and future prospects of getting updates are uncertain at best. There’s gesture support as well on offer.

Looks and Connectivity:

It is a pretty sleek one as it has a thickness of just 7.7 mm and weighs 128 grams. It has a good build quality and this surely is one of the few good things about it. You get gesture support as well.

The device has a well rounded off connectivity package with 3G HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS being made available. However it misses out on NFC.

Comparison:

The device will be up against the likes of the Micromax Canvas Turbo, Karbonn Titanium X, Xolo Q3000, and Xolo Q2000 which are pretty much way more loaded than it is but falls it their category because of its price.

Key Specs

RAM 1 GB
Internal Storage 4 GB, Expandable
OS Android 4.2
Cameras 8 MP/ 2 MP

Conclusion:

The Oppo Find 5 Mini might be the one completing Oppo’s lineup for India but comes across as a overpriced smartphone which in no way has a value for money package on offer. You’d be better off looking elsewhere. Oppo is a new brand for Indians and it simply can’t afford to price its devices at such a high premium as it still is a new Chinese brand looking to get a strong footing in India.
