Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD 500 GB Designed for Ultrabooks Launched

Seagate has launched Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD 500 GB which claims to provide you with up to 500 GB of storage without compromising on speed of the Flash memory conventionally used in your portable devices like Ultrabooks.

Technically speaking, this storage is integrated with Seagate mobile enablement kit which includes Seagate’s dynamic data driver software technology and provides with up to 7 times the storage of a traditional 64 GB tablet with the same speed and efficiency as a flash drive.

We have seen Seagate hard drives in slender laptops and now this high storage high performance storage drives have the potential to be a game changer as far as storage in portable devices like tablets and Ultrabooks is concerned.

Seagate has addressed and tested key factors different from Laptop storage like shock management, heat and vibration and gyroscopic motion to ensure compatibility in the portable environment. This new storage drive is 2.5 Inch in length and only 5 mm in thickness. It weighs 93 grams which can significantly increase the weight of a device.


Ultra Mobile HDD, Dynamic Data Driver software and a customized reference design form part of the Seagate Mobile Enablement kit and for now will be compatible only for Android operating system. This storage cab also be used as external storage via USB port.

Seagate hasn’t mentioned any OEM which has decided to use this storage derive and hence it might take some time to actually see a mammoth storage Ultrabook or tablet for now. If these claims are true they might soon revolutionize internal storage capacities of our storage devices
