Camera and Internal storage

The Ascend G730 sports a 5 MP camera on the rear with auto focus and LED flash. The camera comes with some exciting features such as Voice Photo, and allows Geotagging. It can also be used for Full HD video recording at 30 frames per seconds. The front Camera is a VGA camera which is passable for making video calls.

The device comes with an inbuilt storage of 4GB, which might be considered small for this price, and only 1.8 GB of this internal storage is actually available to the user. A memory card slot is provided which allows the user to expand the storage using a micro SD card of up to 32 GB.

Processor and Battery

The Huawei Ascend G730 comes with a Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 MediaTek MT6582 GPU, which is the low cost Quad Core chipset from MediaTek, and an ARM Mali-450MP2 GPU. Accompanying this processor is 1 GB of RAM.

A 2300 mAh battery is available with the device to fulfill the power requirements of the smartphone. The battery is expected to provide up to 200 hours of standby time and 3 hours of talk time. For a Phablet device, this battery might prove to be a little too small.

Display and features

The device features a 5.5 inch qHD Capacitive Multi-touch Display. The resolution is merely 540X960 giving the device a pixel density of about 200 pixels per inch. With a 5.5  inch phablet, you would’ve expected a higher resolution and low resolution can result in lack of clarity and sharpness in the display.

The Ascend G730 comes with Android 4.3 out of the box, and Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top. It provides Dual active noise reduction with a dedicated mic, SNS integration, an Organizer, Document viewer, Photo viewer etc. An accelerometer and a Proximity sensor are also included in the device.

Comparison

Some of the direct competitors of this device would be Xolo Q1010i, Karbonn Titanium X, Micromax Canvas Magnus A117, Xolo Q1100 etc. Most of these devices, along with many others, offer very similar of better hardware specifications.

With the presence of numerous other devices with similar specifications in the same price range, it faces some tough competition. While a 5.5 inch display could entice customers to the device, absence of HD display and poor battery backup may repel them. The Ascend G730 might just find some buyers in users who require a large screen within a very tight budget.
