Update: 12-05-2014 Micromax Canvas Elanza 2 is now available for purchase for Rs. 9,340
Micromax has just listed its latest Canvas series smartphone, Elanza 2 online and it will be taking charge from its predecessor Canvas Elanza which was launched back in February. Micromax has given the Elanza a good upgrade in the Elanza 2 but the price has not yet been disclosed. It is expected to cost around Rs 10,000 or will cost below it. Let us compare the Elanza and Elanza 2 to find out which one’s better.
Display and Processor
The Canvas Elanza comes with a 5 inch display which has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The Elanza 2 however has a 5 inch screen which has a better resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The successor is a better looking unit and surely makes it worthy an upgrade.
The Elanza 2 gets a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 200 processor based on Cortex A7 architecture whereas the Elanza comes with a 1.3 GHz dual core Mediatek processor based on Cortex A7 architecture. Do not expect the Snapdragon 200 to give you regular quad core performance level as it is made through an older fabrication process.
Camera and Internal Storage
The camera unit on the Elanza is a 5MP rear camera with a LED flash coupled with a VGA camera. On the other hand, the Elanza 2 gets an 8MP rear camera with a 2MP front camera. Eventhough the latter isn’t something really great, but is still a decent upgrade over the former.
The internal storage of both the smartphones stand at 4GB and can be expanded by another 32GB with the help of a microSD card. Both of them resemble each other in terms of memory and storage capacity so there are no favourites in this regard.
Battery and Other Features
The battery unit on the Elanza 2 is a 2,000 mAh one while the Elanza gets a 1,900 mAh battery. There is a slight bump in specs which is compensated by the increase in the battery capacity. So it ain’t the case that either of them would last more than the other one and expect both of them to last you for a little less than a day.
Canvas Elanza runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean whereas the Canvas Elanza 2 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Canvas Elanza has a RAM capacity of 512 MB whereas the Elanza 2 gets a 1GB RAM which is good enough an upgrade. The Elanza 2 gets a textured faux-leather back which adds a dash of premiumness to it.

Conclusion
Micromax has done well to give the Canvas Elanza 2 a good upgrade over the Canvas Elanza. Seeing the fact that it gets an old school processor makes it all the more compulsory for Micromax to price it right. It looks premium so that’s a good thing. The Elanza 2’s price would decide its fate and we expect it to cost below Rs 9,000 because that is the price point at which it would make a lot of sense.
