Panasonic has launched its first octa-core smartphone, the Panasonic P81 in India for Rs 18,990. Panasonic looks to take on other manufacturers who offer similar features in the same price width. It will be interesting to see how many numbers Panasonic manages to rake in with its octa core smartphone. Let’s see how Panasonic P81 stacks up against HP Slate 6.
Display and Processor
Panasonic P81 sports a 5.5 inch IPS HD screen as compared to HP Slate 6 which flaunts a 6 inch IPS HD display. Both the phones offer the same resolution but the pixel density of HP Slate 6 is marginally lower than that of Panasonic P81. Panasonic P81 leads the line here with a resolution of 780 x 1280 and a pixel density of 267 ppi.
Panasonic P81 packs MediaTek MT692 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.7 GHz while HP Slate 6 has a Marvell PXA1088 Quad core 1.2 Ghz processor under its hood. In general usage all the cores are not running but when it comes to intensive usage HP Slate 6 might lose out and run out of steam. Panasonic P81 will surely be on the winning side when it comes to running core intensive apps.
Camera and Internal Storage
Panasonic P81 has a 13 MP shooter while HP Slate 6 has a 5 MP clicker. Panasonic P81 front camera is a 2 MP same as that on the Slate 6. Both the cameras have auto focus, LED flash and can click HD images. Judging by the brief time we spend with both of these smartphones, the Panasonic P81 has a better camera unit which clicks better quality crisp images.
Panasonic P81 has 8 GB internal storage expandable to 32 GB. HP Slate on the other hand offers 16 GB internal storage expandable to 64 GB. As far as storage goes, more is always better. So this round goes to HP Slate 6.
Battery and Other Features
Panasonic P81 has a 2500 mAh Li-ion non removable cell while HP Slate 6 is powered by a mammoth 3000 mAh Li-Po removable battery. 2,500 mAh battery on the Panasonic P81 is expected to last for up to a day’s backup under normal to moderate usage. Both of the devices seem to pack enough power for decent usage, at least on paper.
Panasonic P81 runs the Android 4.2 jellybean while HP Slate 6 works with the Android 4.3.Both the phones have connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS to let users stay connected. The Panasonic P81 supports several features such as Gesture Play, Pop-i Player and Dual Play – Dual Window. On the other hand HP Slate 6 has front firing speakers and offers 25 GB cloud storage free of cost.
