OPPO today launched its pair of flagship phones in India today and both of the difference are pretty close in terms of user experience you can get from them. The top end Find 7 packs some hardware enhancements over Find 7a but is that worth the extra 6,000 INR? Let’s take a look.
Display and Processor
Oppo is using an IPS LCD panel 5.5 inches in size for both these smartphones, but the display resolution makes for the most conspicuous difference on both of these devices. The Find 7 packs Quad HD 2K 2560 x 1460 resolution which amounts to 538 pixels per inches whereas Find 7a packs conventional flagship 1080p resolution with 403 pixels per inches.
In our initial time with the device, we didn’t notice any difference in the sharpness of both these displays, but it’s possible that the subtle difference becomes more noticeable after a period of usage. Both displays are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass display.
Both these smartphones use different variants of Qualcomm Quad Core Snapdragon 801. The Find 7 employs 2.5 GHz MSM8974AC with Adreno 330 GPU clocked at 578 MHz and a higher ISP frequency as well (465 MHz vs 320 MHz). The Find 7a on the other hand employs 2.3 GHz MSM8974AB with Adreno 330 ticking at 450 MHz. The difference is significant but in day to day usage, you won’t notice it.
Camera and Internal Storage
Both the smartphone have a 13 MP Sony Exmor IMX214 BSI 1/3.06″ CMOS sensor and wide f/2.0 aperture. You can record 4K and full HD videos. In our initial time with both of the camera’s the performance was similar.
Internal storage on Oppo Find 7 is 32 GB where as on Oppo Find 7a, its 16 GB. The value of extra 16 GB on Find 7 is further reduced by the fact that both phones carry 128 GB microSD support. Both devices support USB OTG as well for secondary storage.
Battery, Operating System and Other Features
The battery capacity is 3000 mAh and 2800 mAh on Find 7a and Find 7 respectively, and we expect the backup to be similar. Both phones have removable battery which can be full charged in an hour, thanks to rapid charging VOOC technology used by OPPO.
The operating system is again same with both devices running Android 4.3 jelly bean with home brewed ColorOS on top. The highlight is the gesture support. You can define your own gestures and use them even on lock screen. You can directly draw a circle to launch camera app on lock screen.
Find 7a is mostly plastic, but Find 7 is carved out of an aluminum chassis with carbon fiber back cover. Both the devices are quite sturdy with superior built quality, but Find 7 looks better. Oppo Find 7 also boasts of Oppo Max Audio Sound Enhancement Stereo speaker which is not present in Find 7a.
