Design and Build Quality

The OnePlus Band comes with a similar design to other fitness trackers in the market. The pill-shaped tracker comes inside a removable strap design. The dimensions are 40.4 x 17.6 x 11.95mm and it weighs 22.6g with the strap, which is barely felt on the wrist.

The OnePlus’ tracker is fully water-resistant with a 5ATM and IP68 rating so you can use the band even underwater while swimming.

On Mi Band 5, you also get a similar black-colored pill-shaped display inside a plastic strap. Both bands have sensors on the back. These also come with multiple color options of the strap.

The good thing about the Mi Band 5 design is its charging system. Unlike OnePlus Band, you don’t need to remove the tracker from the strap to charge it. Moreover, it also comes with a single touch button to wake and go back.

Display

The OnePlus Band sports a 1.1-inch (126×294 pixels) AMOLED color touchscreen. The image quality is good with vivid and oversaturated colors that offer perfect viewing angles, even under direct sunlight, thanks to the AMOLED panel.

The OnePlus Band’s display does not support an always-on display option. However, it does support raise to wake detection that is one of the best features of this tracker.

Mi Band 5, on the other hand, also has a 1.1″ AMOLED screen with 126 * 294 pixels resolution and 450 nits max brightness, as per the company. This also offers good viewing angles because of the AMOLED panel. This also doesn’t come with an always-on display.

Exercise Modes

In terms of activity and fitness tracking, the OnePlus band keeps track of your movements throughout the day, right from counting your steps to workout and tracking activities like running, cycling, and various sports as well as sleep cycles.

The Mi Band 5 offers a total of 11 exercise modes. Apart from the main activities like running and cycling, the Mi Band can also 5 record sports, and sleep cycles.

Health Features

The OnePlus Band has a built-in heart rate monitor to check heart rate at regular intervals. It also has a built-in oximeter that can measure your oxygen saturation or SpO2 levels. This is a very useful feature these days because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it can measure your SpO2 levels during your sleep.

All of the health data including workouts, heart rate, SpO2 levels, and sleep tracking can be seen in the new OnePlus Health app. Despite all these features, OnePlus has missed out on two important features that Mi Band 5 has- menstrual tracking and stress monitoring.

Apart from these two important features, Mi Band 5 also has breathing exercises and brings PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) mode to track health.

Battery Life and Charging

OnePlus Band packs a 100mAh battery and claims to offer 14 days of battery life. The wired charging dongle requires you to remove the tracker from the strap every time you need to charge it. The good thing is that it can be done by just pushing the tracker gently.

The Mi Smart Band 5 now comes with a battery size of 125 mAh. The battery can offer up to 12 to 14 days of life. Xiaomi decided to ditch the dongle charger and it comes with a magnetic charger with two pogo pins so it can stay in the strap while charging.

Other Features

Apart from the above-mentioned features, the OnePlus Band can control music playback, set alarms, and timers, and can also be used to take pictures remotely with your phone. You can check your phone’s notifications including calls and messages.

The OnePlus Band offers 37 watch face customizations and you can also set a photo as your watch face or the world clock option.

Xiaomi’s Mi Band 5 also comes with all these features like Music control, camera control, etc, and you can also check notifications on the band.

Moreover, Mi Band 5 has over 65 watch faces that offer three different types of information and you can also set a Photo as Watch Face.

Price and Availability

The OnePlus Band is priced at Rs. 2,499 and the Mi Smart Band 5 is also priced at the same. The Mi band is available already and OnePlus will start selling its band from January 13. OnePlus Band is available via the OnePlus Store and Amazon and Mi Band 5 is sold via mi.com and Amazon.

OnePlus Band Vs Mi Band 5: Wrapping Up

The OnePlus Band has all the essential features that fitness should have and it also has some special features like SpO2 monitoring, something that is available only in a few bands (for example Honor Band 5). Design and display wise, the OnePlus Band is the same as other brands available. However, it lacks a few important features that the Mi Band 5 has, including menstrual tracking, stress monitoring, and a magnetic charger. Overall, it is a solid band from OnePlus that you can buy if you don’t mind the missing features. Otherwise, Mi Band 5 is also an equally good choice.
