Wrapping Up

So this is how you can search for unclaimed deposits with an Indian bank and follow the said bank’s procedure to claim your matching deposits. Currently, only six banks are available on this centralized portal, and the remaining banks will be available in a phased manner by October 15, 2023. Also, it is to be noted that RBI is not responsible for the accuracy or completeness of any data/material contained on the UDGAM portal and recommends visitors exercise care and judgment to use this portal.

During our search, the results were pretty vague, as all it did was match the first and last name of the account holder. This will make it difficult to find your ancestors’ unclaimed deposits (if any). There should be more filters to narrow down the results, like details of parents or grandparents, along with an option to fill in multiple addresses. I hope to see such additions to UDGAM in the future. Stay tuned to GadgetsToUse for more such reads, and check the ones linked below.
