Coolpad, now a sister company of LeEco has just launched the Cool 1 in India. The Coolpad Cool 1 is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 652 chipset and sports a dual camera arrangement. Featuring a price tag of Rs. 13,999, the handset offers an excellent value for money proposition. The Huawei Honor 6X is another smartphone which brings a dual camera set-up at a similar price point. However, it is yet to be officially announced India.
To buy the Coolpad Cool 1, you need to wait till January 5, 2017, when the phone will first go for sale exclusively through Amazon.in. The Cool 1 will also be sold through brick and mortar stores. Just that the offline variant will feature 3 GB RAM instead of 4 GB of the online version. On the other hand, Huawei is expected to bring the Honor 6X at the beginning of January 2017 in India. It will probably cost nearby the Rs. 13,999 price tag of Cool 1.
The Cool 1 and the Honor 6X are clearly a rival to one another. So, today we will scan the different aspects and try to find which is the better smartphone.

Display and Appearance
Speaking of display, both the Cool 1 and Honor 6X rock 5.5-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) IPS LCD panels. The latter also has a 2.5D curved display. Each of the screens offers good color reproduction and are pretty decent for regular use. Appearance-wise, both the smartphones sport metallic design along with thin bezels. Coming to dimensions, here too they are quite similar. Both of them are 8.2 mm thick and fairly eligible for single handed usage.
Performance, Software, and Storage
Just like LeEco Le 2, the Coolpad Cool 1 sports the popular Snapdragon 652 SoC. Huawei, on the other hand, has preferred to use its in-house HiSilicon Kirin 655 chipset. Although both of them are octa-core processors, the Snapdragon 652 certainly has more horsepower than Kirin 655. The difference is prominently visible when doing CPU intensive tasks or playing games.
Talking about the software, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is at the helm of both the handsets. However, they look quite different due to the customizations by Coolpad (LeEco) and Huawei. The formers are known as EUI 5.6, while the latter’s is the Emotion UI 4.1.
Now let’s move on to the memory department. Coolpad and Huawei make both 3 GB and 4 GB RAM variants of their devices. Interestingly, both the companies seem to sell the 4 GB model in India. However, the 3 GB RAM versions will probably land soon. Regardless of RAM, both the devices shall be equipped with 32 GB of internal storage. Here is a catch. While the Cool 1 does not support any micro SD cards, the Honor 6X can take in memory cards via it’s hybrid SIM tray.
This is the most interesting part of both the Cool 1 and the Honor 6X. They are among the very first lower mid-range Android smartphones to rock dual camera arrangement. The Cool 1 sports a dual 13 MP shooter, while Huawei combines a 12 MP unit along with a 2 MP sensor. PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) is present in two of them. Both smartphones feature 8 MP selfie snappers.
Coming to video recording, both of them can shoot Full HD (1080 x 1920) footages at 30 fps. The Coolpad Cool 1 can additionally record 4K 2160p films at 30 fps and slow motion 720p videos at 120 fps. Thus, on paper, the Huawei Honor 6X lacks behind Coolpad’s offering.
Connectivity is not an issue in any of the smartphones. Both the Cool 1 and the Honor 6X supports a wide range of 4G LTE bandwidths along with VoLTE. There is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, GLONASS, A-GPS, and infra-red emitter. Coolpad’s device rocks dual-band Wi-Fi and Type-C USB port, while the Honor 6X has a single band Wi-Fi chip and micro USB 2.0.
Pricing and Availability
Finally, let’s talk about the pricing and availability. The Cool 1 costs Rs. 13,999 and will be available for purchase on 5th January from Amazon.in. On the other hand, Huawei hasn’t yet officially launched the Honor 6X in India. However, it is expected to be priced similarly around Rs. 14,000 and Rs. 15,000.
The Coolpad Cool 1 and Huawei Honor 6X are very well equipped midrange smartphones. They share a lot in terms of specifications and pricing (expected). However, the Cool 1 has considerably more processing power, better camera hardware (at least on paper), 4K and slow motion video recording capability, Type-C USB and dual-band Wi-Fi. These give it a somewhat lead in this comparison.
Apart from the 2.5D display curvature, micro SD card slot and a better known brand name, there is nothing that the Honor 6X can excel in. At the end, a lot depends on personal preferences. Personally, I think the Cool 1 is a better buy unless Huawei does any wonder in the pricing.
