Micromax Canvas Knight A350 VS Canvas Gold A300 Comparison Overview

Update 3-7-2013: Micromax Canvas Knight A350 is now shipping with 1.7 GHz MT6592 instead of 2 GHz MT6592T

Micromax wants to ensure that it is ahead of the competitors in the fast emerging octa core arena and it has just launched the Canvas Gold A300 which has been slotted above the Canvas Knight A350 in the country. The two of them are closely matched in terms of specs barring the screen size, software version and build. The Canvas Knight was launched for Rs 19,999 while the Canvas Knight is on sale for Rs 23,999. Let us compare the two to see as to how do they stack up against each other.

Display and Processor

The Canvas Gold has a screen size of 5.5 inches which has resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels whereas the Canvas Knight has the same resolution too albeit with a smaller screen size of 5 inches. It is completely a matter of personal choice as to what screen size do you favour more out of the two of them. Both are IPS units so you can expect good viewing angles from both of them.

The chipset of both the devices is the exact same one so there won’t be a performance difference in either of the two. They come with a 2 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592T processor under the hood which is quite a capable performer. So you won’t be left wanting for more. The RAM capacity of both the devices stands at 2GB so multitasking would be quite swift too.

Camera and Internal Storage

The imaging department is the one where the latest entrant Canvas Gold falls slightly short of the Canvas Knight. Both of them get the same 16MP camera at the rear with an OmniVision sensor but the difference comes in terms of the front camera. The Canvas Gold has a 5MP unit which gives the Canvas Knight an edge over it courtesy of the 8MP unit it has.

The internal storage capacity of the siblings stands at 32GB and it can not be expanded either. It has been partitioned as 25GB for user ‘s mass storage and 1.5GB for applications. This is a matter of personal preference because some may like the fact that the major part has been given to the mass storage partition while some may fuss over the paltry 1.5 GB available for installing applications.

Battery and Features

The Canvas Knight has a 2,350 mAh battery that will be performing better than the 2,300 mAh unit of the Canvas Gold. The latter has a big screen and a smaller battery capacity in comparison to its identical sibling. As a result, the Canvas Knight gets an edge over it in the world where battery life is a quite an important issue.

The Canvas Gold runs on Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box while Canvas Knight runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Seeing the fact that both of them have a lot in common, perhaps Micromax will provide a KitKat update for Knit A350 as well, but it wouldn’t be wise to count on it.

Price and Conclusion

The Canvas Knight officially retails for roughly Rs 20,000 but most retailers are selling it for around 23,000 INR and the Canvas Gold is available on infibeam for approximately Rs 24,000. We expect Canvas Knight A350 to either go out of stock or get a price cut soon. Under present circumstances Canvas A300 Gold looks like a better choice out of the two.
