We’re sure you’ve been waiting for this one ever since the Canvas Turbo was launched by Micromax! The comparison is obvious, and with the devices featuring nearly identical specifications, it’s going be a real tussle between Micromax and Gionee for prospective buyers. While the Elife E6 presents an amazing looking body, the Micromax Canvas Turbo comes with the assurance of a domestic brand, which for some is paramount.
Let us go ahead with this war between these 1080p beasts!
Display and Processor
Well, we’re pretty sure you know what these devices have on offer in this segment. For those who aren’t, here’s what these phones pack: 5 inch 1080p screens, with the updated and more powerful 1.5GHz MT6589T processor from MediaTek. This puts them in the league of the best smartphones trending the the world currently. Such a specs sheet with a domestic phone was hard to imagine even 6 months back!
Coming back to the tussle, we really can’t choose one between the two; we’re yet to receive a Micromax Canvas Turbo for review, but when we reviewed the Gionee Elife E6 we were thoroughly impressed by what we saw. 1080p of beauty! We do not expect the Canvas Turbo to fall behind.
Both devices come with exactly the same processor specifications, as mentioned previously. It is the budget market’s favourite – the MT6589T which houses 4 Cortex A7 based cores operating at 1.5 GHz per core. Both phones have 2GB of RAM so you can expect similar, if not identical, performance.
Camera and Memory
Again, there’s nothing to choose from in between these phones (we find ourselves in this situation way too often these days). On the front is a 5MP shooter and on the rear sits a 13MP unit on both these devices, so nothing can be said looking at the specs on paper. But again, we were impressed with the 13MP AF unit on the Gionee Elife E6 which is provided by Sony, and expect the Canvas Turbo to have a similar effect on us. With a 5MP shooter at the front, you are guaranteed above average self portraits.
On the storage front, the Gionee Elife E6 takes the upper hand with its 32GB of on-board ROM. The Canvas Turbo packs just 16GB, and both devices do not feature any sort of memory expansion. Although the 32GB on the E6 should and probably will be enough for most users, there’s nothing like having a microSD slot which you can use to have your own storage configuration depending on your need.
Battery and Features
Yet again, the devices are neck to neck. While the Canvas Turbo packs a 2000mAh unit, the Gionee Elife E6 comes with a 2020mAh unit. The real-world usage of both these devices should see about the same amount of time on a single charge, and extracting a whole day of usage on one charge will be quite a task, especially if you plan to use all of the phone’s features. With a 1080p screen and 13MP camera, that is likely to happen and you will most probably be hitting the charger by evening on both these devices. There can’t be one winner out of the two solely on the basis of battery life.
Both phones come packed with software features. While Micromax is known for its subtle UI changes and features, Gionee jump the gun and show off their Amigo UI on the Elife E6. It might look prettier, but there’s toll that’s taken on the processing department beneath the hood. Nonetheless, both phones come with features like gestures, and the Canvas Turbo features some extra tricks in the form of blow to unlock, shake to unlock, etc. carried forward from the Canvas 4.

Conclusion
The Gionee Elife E6 has been lauded for its amazing build quality and premium looks. However, many in India are apprehensive about spending upwards of 20k INR on a phone manufactured by a Chinese company. On the other hand, Micromax is now a household brand, and people do not think twice before going for a device manufactured by them. With the Canvas Turbo getting a more aggressive pricing, it will be interesting to see what buyers go for. If we’re asked to sum it up, we’d say that the Gionee Elife E6 is for those who want amazing looks and build quality (of course, you have to shell out about 1-2k INR extra) and the Canvas Turbo is more like taking the safer side.
Yash, you forgot to mention, three new camera features which are displayed on canvas turbo’s webpage i.e. 1. Cinemagraph 2. 360° panaroma 3. Object eraser.. they are cool and new, though cinemagraph is in Nokia lumia series…
thanks for pointing out, all these 3 features are powered by apps which can run on other phones as well, but yes we will explain these features as we get the device.
Can you please tell me that micromax canvas turbo has external memory slot or not ??
there is no microSD expansion slot.
thnx for everything but i think that micromax is better option than any chinese brand
Excuse me sir micromax is also a chinese brand.. And it does not have its own r&d
they get their phones manufactured by OEM in china, we have no information about their R&D center as if now.
please review this device soon, waiting for it, thanks
we will post the review as soon as possible.
Hi,
Can i go for gionee over micromax turbo?
i am skeptical about gionee service centers.
Please let me know.
Regards,
Amit.
Hi Amit,
Your apprehensions are respected, but you might want to check the list of Gionee service centers here. If this doesn’t satisfy you, you can always go for Micromax! Good luck!
Gionee is 1000 times better than micromax…Anyone can realise it after using an gionee smartphone.
We agree with you.
Something about E6 have not mentioned here that Gionee has 13MP camera with 5 lense on it which is only available on a professional camera.. and it also have blue glass filter on its rear cam which will give the exact real colour view of every thing… Gionee has already given the features like eraser shot, panorama shot, face beauty, best shot, etc on its camera.. And Gionee Elife E6 has come with 5″ LCD but OGS (One Glass Solution) which turbo does not have…So a genuin person will 100% go for Elife E6..
I heard that its performance lag in normal applications, moreover battery drain early.
gionee users is it right?
there is a slight lag but its not much, battery lasted for ur for around one day with moderate usage.
Gionee manufacturing R&D and Design comny and micromax, lava(xolo),karbonn is treadmarker comny gionee is No.1 gsm comny in china
GIONEE ALSO MANUFACTUR MICROMAX MOBILE PHONE’S AND XOLO Q800
sir one query please. I am very confused between these two phones??? which one should i buy??
does turbo comes with screen guard on it or not please clarify my these doubt . I will be thankful to you . hoping for a positive response from you
Turbo comes with screen gaurd preinstalled on the device itself. Both of these phones are equally good in build quality, but e6 definitely looks more premium though. Performance wise both of the them are good but the UI is almost stock android on turbo which makes it more snappy then e6 amigo UI which is custom UI running on top of android.
which interface is better? stock android on turbo or the amigo one on e6?
also.. i’ll be using the phone for gaming and general use of any college going guy.. keeping that in mind, suggest me one name from the above two.. Thanks.
stock android is always better as it is more snappy and faster anytime than the custom UI in most cases, in this case amigo UI running on e6 is slower than stock UI on canvas turbo. for gaming needs canvas magnus will be a better choice, neither turbo and nor e6 is good for heavy games.
sir i have a question that is canvus turbo coming with full gesture controll like E6
