Vivo and the Lenovo-owned Motorola Mobility, the two Chinese smartphone manufacturers are quite prominent in the Indian market. Both these companies are operating in the market with their a significant lineup with each phone being a competent option in its respective segment. Recently, Vivo launched its selfie-focused smartphone V5 Plus which is a direct competitor of the already existing player Moto Z Play.
The Vivo V5 Plus has been launched at Rs 27,980 while the Moto Z Play is available at Rs 24,999. So, here we are comparing these two models – one which is selfie focused and the other which is performance oriented with decent camera output to let you decide better.

Vivo V5 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch full HD in-cell IPS LCD, with a pixel density of ~401 ppi. It is further protected by Gorilla Glass 5 that protects the display.
The Moto Z Play also features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 1080 X 1920 pixels and a density of ~401 ppi. The difference between the two smartphones is the AMOLED technology which gives better infinite contrast to the Moto Z Play.
Hardware And Storage
The Vivo V5 Plus is powered by an Octa-core 8X2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor with Adreno 506 GPU. The processor is further coupled to 4GB RAM and a 64GB internal storage. The drawback with V5 Plus is that the storage is limited and it cannot be expanded further.
The Moto Z Play is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 GPU. It is further coupled to 3GB RAM and a 32GB storage. Though, the RAM is higher on the Vivo V5 Plus but, Moto Z Play storage can be further enhanced through microSD up to 256GB.
The multitasking and gaming are hassle free in the Vivo V5 Plus and the same is experienced in the Moto Z Play as well. The only difference is that Moto Z Play experience a slightly higher rate of heating during heavy gaming.

When Vivo is promoting the V5 Plus as a selfie-focused camera, it is quite obvious that expectations for camera quality is slightly higher than its competitor. V5 Plus features 16MP primary camera while a 20MP + 8MP dual front camera.
The Moto Z Play also features a 16MP camera with dual LED but at the back but, the front gets a 5MP camera with a LED flash. Clearly, the dual camera setup is better on papers and likely in the real-time results as well.
Connectivity options of Vivo V5 Plus include dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and FM radio.
The Moto Z Play features dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC but, it lacks Radio. It also features USB Type-C 1.0 with a reversible connector.
Fueling the Vivo V5 Plus is its non-removable 3160 mAh battery while the Moto Z play comes with a 3150 mAh battery. Vivo V5 Plus has a slightly bigger battery pack and thus, we can expect a bit improved battery life in V5 Plus.
Pricing And Availability
The Vivo V5 Plus comes with a dual camera setup at the front and thus it is higher in the price range than Moto Z Play. The Vivo V5 Plus is priced at Rs 27, 980 and will be available for pre-orders from 24 January. The sales will begin from February 1. The Moto Z Play is priced at Rs 24,999 and it is already available on all the major online marketplaces.
Apart from better camera configuration, Vivo V5 Plus does not perform extraordinary than Moto Z Play. The performance, camera output, and battery life are better in the Vivo V5 Plus but, even software experience and display are not bad in the Moto Z Play as well. So, if you are a person who needs significant performance along with a better camera quality than Vivo V5 Plus is a good choice with some extra bucks. But, camera quality is not a major concern for you than Moto Z Play is the option that you should consider.
