Samsung recently launched its new Galaxy A series phone- Galaxy A20 in India. The budget phone comes with some good features like Super AMOLED display, Android 9.0 Pie with One UI, dual rear cameras with an ultra-wide angle lens, and a big 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support.

The Galaxy A20 was launched at a price of Rs. 12,490 in India. At this price point, many smartphones are available in the Indian market. However, Xioami Redmi Note 7 can be the best competitor to Samsung‘s Galaxy A20. Let’s find out which is the best smartphone for Rs. 12,000 in India.

Design: Glasstic back Vs Glass back

The Galaxy A20 comes with a plastic body. The device looks good though with a shiny 3D Glasstic look. The thickness of the phone is just 7.8 mm which make it easier to use by one hand. The phone comes in Red, Blue, and Black colors and the Blue one looks more stunning. 

The Redmi Note 7, on the other hand, comes with a more premium glass back design. It also has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the back. Moreover, it has a splash proof body with P2i nano-coating. The phone is just 8.1mm thick and it can also be used by one hand easily. It also comes in Onyx Black, Ruby Red, and Sapphire Blue colors.

Winner: Overall, design-wise, Redmi Note 7 is a winner with its glass back design.

Display: HD+ Vs FHD+

The Samsung Galaxy A20 sports a 6.4-inch HD+ (1560 × 720 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity-V display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2340 ×1080 pixels) IPS display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. On one hand, Samsung has an AMOLED panel, but, Redmi Note 7 offers FHD+ resolution plus Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Winner: Here again, Redmi Note 7 is a winner for higher resolution.

Cameras: Dual cameras on both sides

The Galaxy A20 sports a dual rear camera set up that includes a 13MP primary camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 5MP 123° ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. It sports an 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture.

In terms of camera, Redmi Note 7 has a new 12MP primary rear camera with Sony IMX486 sensor, f/2.2 aperture, and a secondary 2MP camera. It has a 13MP selfie camera.

Both the phones click good pictures. But, the Galaxy A20’s rear camera has better optics and Redmi Note 7’s front camera has more megapixels.

Performance: Exynos Vs Snapdragon

The Galaxy A20 is powered by an Octa-Core Exynos 7884 processor. It is paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage that is expandable up to 512GB via micro SD.

The Redmi Note 7 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor paired with up to 4GB RAM. It packs up to 64GB storage, expandable up to 256GB with microSD.

On the software front, the Galaxy A20 runs on Android 9.0 Pie with Samsung’s One UI on top. While the Redmi Note 7 also runs on Android 9.0 Pie with its MIUI 10 on top.

Winner: On the processor front, Redmi Note 7 is a winner for its powerful chipset. On the software front, you can decide for yourself.

Battery and Connectivity: Its a tie

The Galaxy A20 has a 4,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support. The Redmi Note 7 also packs a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support. They both have usual connectivity options including Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4 /5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS+GLONASS, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm audio jack.

Further, both the phones sport all the usual sensors including an accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Galaxy A20 comes at a price of Rs. 12490 in India for the lone 3GB/32GB version. While the Redmi Note 7 costs only Rs. 9,999 for its 3GB/32GB model and for Rs. 12,000, you can but its 4GB/64GB model. Samsung’s Galaxy A20 offers modern design, impressive cameras, and good performance at this price, but the Redmi Note 7 has a better design, display, and a powerful processor at a lesser price. So, if you are planning to spend as much as Rs. 12k on a smartphone, there is no better choice than the Redmi Note 7.
