Redmi 7 Vs Realme C2: Which one is a better budget phone? [Update: Camera Samples]

Xiaomi today launched the Redmi 7 smartphone in India. The Redmi 7 is a budget range phone that comes with features like HD+ dot notch display, Snapdragon 632 processor, Android 9.0 Pie, dual rear cameras, and a 4,000mAh battery.

The Redmi 7 price in India starts at Rs. 7,999. At the same price point, Realme also launched its Realme C2 in India just a couple of days ago. Realme C2 comes with dewdrop notch display, Helio P22 processor and dual rear cameras at a starting price of Rs. 5,999.

Let’s find out which of these budget phones offer better value for your money.

Design and display

Starting with the design, these both are the budget phones so they come with the polycarbonate body. The back of the Redmi 7 looks more attractive with its gradient design that the company calls Aura Smoke design. While the Realme C2 has a diamond cut pattern on the back that isn’t glossy. Further, both the phones are slim and lightweight too.

Coming to the display quality, the Redmi 7’s 6.26-inch HD+ (1520×720 pixels) display offers good brightness and daylight visibility. It also has Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Realme C2, on the other hand, also has a 6.1-inch HD+ display that also offers good brightness. It is also protected with Gorilla Glass 3.

Winner: In terms of design, we can say Redmi 7 looks better because of its more premium looking gradient glossy back design. In terms of display, its a tie.

Cameras

For the camera, both the phones have a dual camera set up at the back. The Redmi 7 has a 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP secondary camera for depth effects. The camera is able to click good pictures just like previous Xiaomi Redmi series phones. There is an 8MP selfie camera.

Realme C2’s dual rear camera setup comes with a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera for depth effects. It may also offer good pictures justifying its optics. There is a 5MP AI selfie camera that may also click good selfies.

Performance

The Redmi 7 gets the power from the latest Snapdragon 632 octa-core processor that is paired with up to 3GB RAM. This is a new 14nm series processor that has some improvements in terms of gaming, camera, and power consumption.

The Realme C2 comes with MediaTek’s Helio P22 octa-core chipset. This is the 12nm process based processor that is clocked at up to 2.0GHz. However, in terms of gaming and multitasking, it might not be as good as Snapdragon 632.

Winner: Overall, in terms of performance, Realme C2 wins as it has a 12nm process based chipset.

Software: MIUI Vs ColorOS

The Redmi 7 runs on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 on top. The Realme C2 also runs on Android 9 Pie Oreo-based with ColorOS 5.1. Both the phones have their usual set of apps and bloatware.

Battery and Connectivity

The Redmi 7 packs a big 4000mAh battery. Realme also offers the same battery capacity in the C2. The Redmi 7 packs 32GB storage that is expandable up to 512GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. The Realme C2 comes with up to 64GB storage that is also expandable up to 256GB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

For other connectivity features, both the phones come with Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS + GLONASS, 3.5mm audio jack, and micro USB port.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Redmi 7 starts at Rs. 7,999 which is much higher than the Realme C2’s starting price. At Rs. 7,999 you can buy the 3GB variant of the Realme C2. At this price, Realme offers a better processor and more RAM. While in terms of display and design, there is not much difference, Redmi 7 looks a little bit better though. Overall, if you are going to buy a budget phone, Realme C2 comes as a whole package at a much lesser price than Redmi 7.
