Starting with the design, the Samsung Galaxy M40 comes with a polycarbonate back panel. It has a similar design to the previous Galaxy M30 but doesn’t have that two-tone finish, instead, it comes with a more glossy look at the back.
Redmi Note 7 Pro, on the other hand, looks more premium as it comes with a glass back. There is Gorilla Glass 5 back panel which also offers gradient effect. So, Redmi Note 7 Pro can be a winner here, but then again glass back also has its drawbacks.
Coming to the front, the Galaxy M40 comes with a completely new design in the segment. It has the punch-hole display just like the flagship S10 series. Redmi Note 7 Pro has the old dot notch design at the front.
Both Redmi Note 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy M40 sport a 6.30-inch full-HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1080x2340pixels. They come with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and offer much screen to body ratio.
Though Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with a waterdrop-style notch and Galaxy M40 comes with a punch-hole display. The former’s display has Gorilla Glass 5 protection while Galaxy M40 has Gorilla Glass 3.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro has dual rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary Sony IMX 586 sensor with an f/1.79 aperture lens and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor. It has a 13MP camera for selfies.
The Samsung Galaxy M40, on the other hand, comes with a triple rear camera setup that has a 32MP primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture lens, a 5MP secondary depth sensor, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. For selfies, it has a 16MP sensor at the front.
Here are a few camera samples from both phones.
The Galaxy M40 and Redmi Note 7 Pro both are powered by Snapdragon 675 processor that is clocked at up to 2GHz. They both also come with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage.
If we compare both phones’ performances, they both offer similar results because of the same hardware. You can also check the AnTuTu benchmark scores above.
Both the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Galaxy M40 run on the latest Android 9 Pie. While the Galaxy M40 comes with Samsung’s One UI and Redmi Note 7 Pro has its own MIUI 10. Both the UIs have a slew of new features, however, OneUI seems a little cleaner than MIUI.
Battery and Others
The Redmi Note 7 Pro packs a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charge support and Galaxy M40 has a 3,500mAh battery with 15W fast charge support. However, Xiaomi doesn’t offer fast charger with the box.
The Galaxy M40 doesn’t have a 3.5mm jack while Redmi Note 7 Pro has it. Both include a USB Type-C port and all other connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, and fingerprint sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy M40 is priced at Rs 19,990 for the lone 6GB/128GB version. While Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro comes at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB/64GB and at Rs 16,999 for the 6GB/128GB version. So, Galaxy M40 is costlier in any case.
Both Galaxy M40 and Redmi Note 7 Pro come with similar hardware but they have a noticeable difference in terms of design, display, and camera. If you are looking for a phone under Rs. 20,000 with a new design and decent camera performance as well as brand value, Galaxy M40 is the phone for you.
However, if you are looking for a more affordable camera-centric phone and brand & newer looks don’t matter much, Redmi Note 7 Pro is the right choice for you.
