Design and Display
Vivo has already been following the trend of the bezel-less display with V7+, and now V7 also features the same 18:9 ratio display. The Vivo V7 features the same design as the V7+ and only has a smaller display. The V7 sports a 5.7-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio and has minimum bezels. It has the screen resolution of 1,440 x 720 pixels.
On the other hand, the Oppo F5 features a slightly bigger display with similar aspect ratio. The device features a 6-inch full HD+ IPS LCD display with a 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It comes with an FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels.
Now, if we talk about the comparison, both the phones offer almost a similar experience with similar 18:9 aspect ratio displays. However, Oppo F5 has a slightly bigger display and that too with bigger resolution of FHD+. Moreover, Oppo F5 comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Design wise also they both feature unibody plastic design. However, with a slightly bigger FHD+ display with Gorilla Glass protection, Oppo F5 is the winner here.
Hardware and Storage
The Vivo V7 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor with an Adreno 506 GPU. The device packs 4GB RAM and storage wise the V7 offers 32GB of internal storage with a dedicated microSD card slot for up to 256GB.
The Oppo F5 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P23 octa-core processor with Mali GPU. Memory wise, it offers up to 6GB RAM and storage up to 64GB. The device also supports expandable up to 256GB.
If we compare the hardware here, Vivo comes with a Snapdragon processor, while Oppo F5’s Helio P23 is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 450. Then comes the memory, where Oppo takes lead with 6GB. However, overall, Vivo also offers a standard 4GB RAM, so Vivo V7 is the winner here because of Snapdragon processor.
Camera
Vivo and Oppo have always been known for their selfie centric phones. So, let’s talk about the selfie camera first. A 24MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and soft LED flash is given for selfies in the Vivo V7, which click good pictures. On the other hand, the Oppo F5 features a 20MP selfie camera with same f/2.0 aperture. One highlight feature of Oppo F5 is its AI-powered front camera.
If we talk about rear cameras, Vivo V7 sports a 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. Other features include LED flash and PDAF. Similarly, Oppo F5 also features a 16MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and an LED flash.
So, coming to the comparison, rear cameras are almost similar, but Oppo’s rear camera has better aperture so it can work better in low light. As for the front camera, Vivo V7 has a 24MP sensor with LED flash, but Oppo’s front camera doesn’t have flash but has a smart technology. Overall, we can conclude that Oppo is the winner here.
Software and Performance
The Vivo V7 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 3.2 on top. The Oppo F5 also runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with Oppo’s own ColorOS 3.2 skinned on top.
So, as we can see both of them run similar OS with their customized skins. If we talk about Vivo’s Funtouch OS or Oppo’s ColorOS, they both offer almost similar experience and performance. So, it is a tie between Vivo and Oppo in terms of software & performance.
Battery and Connectivity
There isn’t a big difference in terms of the battery and connectivity between both the phones as well. The V7 has a 3,000mAh battery that should offer a day of use. While the Oppo packs a slightly bigger 3,200 mAh battery. So, by seeing the display size, the battery capacity of both the devices seem justified.
If we talk about connectivity, they both offer same options such as 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, micro USB 2.0 and FM Radio. They both sport a fingerprint scanner on the back. So, here again, is a tie between the Vivo V7 and Oppo F5.
Pricing and Availability
Now comes the pricing, which is very important to compare. The V7 starts at Rs. 18,990 in India for its 4GB version. On the other hand, the Oppo F5 price in India starts at Rs. 19,990 for 4GB model and 6GB/64GB model goes up to Rs. 24,990.
So, here we can see Vivo V7 wins in pricing by a slight margin, but it’s noticeable that Oppo has some extra features and bigger FHD+ panel and Rs. 1,000 difference in 4GB models is not that much high in that case.
Conclusion
Coming to the conclusion, both the phones offer similar experience in most of the areas. The Oppo F5 comes with a better display, and it is ahead in the camera and battery departments. The Vivo V7 leads in the hardware section. Software wise they both are similar. If we consider the price, they are also priced almost similar.
So, if you don’t care much about the slightly smaller display without protection, and opt for a better hardware, the Vivo V7 is the better option and you should also save Rs. 1,000. However, a bigger FHD+ display with protection and smart camera make Oppo F5 a good contender as well.
