Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 leaks: Confirmed specs, expected price, launch date

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi may soon launch the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 here in India. The Redmi Note 5 will succeed the Redmi Note 4 that was launched in January last year. The device might be launched with an upgraded processor and a refreshed design with an 18:9 display.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will basically be the same in terms of design and camera as the Redmi 5 that has already been launched in China. However, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 in India might feature an upgraded Snapdragon 630 processor instead of Snapdragon 625. Rest of the specs of the phone might remain same as the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Specifications

To start with the specs, the future Redmi Note 5 in India will come with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution. The full screen will have an 18:9 aspect ratio of 18:9 and a pixel density of ~403 PPI just like the Redmi 5 Plus.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to feature a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture which seems without any upgrade from Redmi Note 4. Up front, it might sport a 5MP front-facing camera with Smart Beauty 3.0 and up to 1080p video recording capabilities.

Coming to hardware now, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to be equipped with a Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It will come in two variants- 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. The device will also come with a dedicated microSD card slot that will allow you to expand the storage up to 128GB.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery. As for the software, Xiaomi fans might get disappointed as the Redmi Note 5 will run on Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top. However, the company might upgrade it to Android Oreo, though that won’t be so soon.

If we talk about pricing, Xiaomi will keep the pricing same as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. It will be a budget smartphone and will be priced at around Rs. 10,000 for the 3GB RAM variant. It is expected that Xiaomi might launch the Redmi Note 5 earlier than the speculated date in India in the third week of February.
